Chelsea star Lampard refuses to rule out future MLS move

Frank Lampard has refused to rule out a move to the United States as speculation grows that this could be his last season at Chelsea.

The 34-year-old is entering the final 12-months of his contract and has been touted to join former England teammate David Beckham at Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Having captained the Blues to Champions League glory in May he expressed a desire to stay at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming campaign but yet to open talks to prolong his stay.

With manager Roberto Di Matteo closing in on the capture of Brazilian international Oscar and having already signed Eden Hazard and Marko Marin the battle for a midfield place will be fierce.

Lampard wore the captains armband during the pre-season friendly against Paris St Germain at the new Yankee Stadium and was candid regarding his future in West London.

“I’m not sure. I have another year on my contract at Chelsea,” he said.

“We have a big season. We play in the Super Cup and the World Club Championship in December.

“Then it’s up to Chelsea. If they want to speak with me about my future, then I’ll speak with them. I wouldn’t rule anything out at the moment.”

Pressed on whether he was on his way to America, Lampard replied: “Not at the moment, no, because I have a contract with Chelsea. Beyond that, I don’t know.”

Di Matteo is intensifying his transfer plans as the new Premier League season beckons and is still chasing a striker with Hulk and Edinson Cavani under consideration as he searches for a new striker to replace Didier Drogba.

The Italian is also said to have seen bids for Willian, Andre Schurrle and Robert Lewandowski whilst Marseille right back Cesar Azpilicueta is also on his shortlist after losing Jose Boswinga.
