Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, Chelsea new boy, Juan Mata, has revealed a childhood hero of his – none other Ryan Giggs.
The Spaniard could line up against Giggs, should the 37 year-old make an appearance in the Premier League clash, and has admitted to growing up idolising the Welshman.
“When I was growing up, I had many idols, like Dennis Bergkamp and Gianfranco Zola. But Ryan Giggs was an inspiration to me. I think he showed what he’s worth with that goal,” Mata stated:
He added: “He’s one of the best wingers ever. Perhaps I noticed Giggs because he plays in the same position as me. He was incredibly impressive, with his tackling, dribbling and general style.”
Should the two midfielders meet against one another on Sunday, Andre Villas Boas will be hoping Mata can put his admiration to one side in order to topple the league leaders.
