Chelsea striker attracting big spender interest

The United States and Russia could come to blows once again as MLS and Russian Premier League sides lock horns over the signature of Nicolas Anelka.

The Chelsea forward, who has seen his game time diminishing over recent months, has already broken records for the amount of transfer fees he has accumulated over his career, and he could be ready to add to the tally.

It’s been reported that LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls are the American side of the competition while big spending Anzhi Makhachkala are responsible for the Russian speculation.

The MLS has become a popular place for footballers to go in the later stages of their career, with Robbie Keane just one of the most recent names to make the switch.

New York could be an interesting venture for Anelka, who would be able to link back up with international compatriot, Thierry Henry, and form a fearsome French forward line-up.

That being said, Anzhi can’t be ruled out as a plausible destination as the club continue to be linked with just about every living player after the sensational signing of Samuel Eto’o which saw the Cameroonian become the world’s best paid player.

Fernando Torres, Dider Drogba, Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata all provide hefty competition against Anelka, and he may see a move away as a hope of gaining more first team football.
