Nicolas Anelka is ready to call it a day on his Chelsea career after new manager, Andre Villas-Boas, preferred to start Fernando Torres in Sunday’s game against Stoke.
The 32 year-old has a year left to run on his contract, and is now more enthusiastic about a move away from Stamford Bridge than ever.
Didier Drogba also found himself on the bench, but is involved in negotiations after being offered a contract extension.
Anelka had previously stated: “I’m still here. I want to stay on until the end of my contract in one year and after that we will see what happens.”
The French international added: “I have never said I wanted to leave Chelsea. Even if there’s an offer from someone else, I don’t care because I’m seeing out my contract at the club.”
However, Anelka is understood to be of a different frame of mind following Sunday’s opening league fixture.
