Chelsea striker to miss Euro trip

Drogba will be missing after having screws removed from his elbowChelsea FC striker Didier Drogba will not feature in Tuesday evening’s Champions League tie against Genk after the player had six screws removed from an old elbow injury.

It is believed that Villas Boas may leave out other big name stars after seeing Chelsea beat Genk 5-0 in their first game against the Belgian side although Villas Boas’ main focus will be trying to get the win, a win that could see the West London side through to the knockout stages with two games remaining.

“We can get in a very, very good position if we can win our game, of course waiting to see what happens in Valencia-Leverkusen. But we also have a chance of qualifying if Leverkusen win. We have to find winning ways straight away in the next competition and then again, when we meet in the Premier League, find the winning ways.”

In somewhat of an interesting twist to the match, young midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will also feature for Genk against the side that look to be leading the chase for his signature. The 20 year had been linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer and the player himself admits that there is a “relationship” between him and Chelsea but that nothing is signed yet.

“I will think about only doing my best for Genk. My ‘relationship’ with Chelsea is not important. Nothing is signed yet, we will see. We gained a lot of confidence in the Brugge game and I scored three times.”

The Chelsea – and more recently reported Manchester United – target added:

“But we won as a team and we have to take on Chelsea as a team. What have we got to lose? Playing against this type of world class team is a player’s dream.”
