Chelsea targeting Borussia Dortmund star Lewandowski

Chelsea will turn their attentions to Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski after calling off their pursuit of Edinson Cavani and Falcao a Footy Bunker source tells us.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich is desperate to sign a new striker this summer to replace Didier Drogba and has been linked with a host of names from around Europe.

Napoli’s Edinson Cavani has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge whilst Atletico Madrid frontman Falcao was also touted as a target but it seems Abramovich has now shelved his interest in the pair.

The Russian oligarch is now said to be chasing Poland international Lewandowski following a prolific campaign for Dortmund that saw him score 30 times on the way to lifting the Bundeliga title and German cup.

The 23-year-old is also said to be a target London rivals Tottenham Hotspur after Harry Redknapp recommended him to the clubs hierarchy prior to his dismissal last month.

New Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is prepared to go head-to-head with his former club for £20 million-rated Pole and there have been suggestions that the Portuguese tactician has already made an initial approach.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is also a long-term admirer of Lewandowski’s but is concentrating on strengthening his midfield ahead of the new season whilst Arsenal also hold a tentative interest as they prepare to sell Robin Van Persie.

Abramovich is still looking to tie up the transfer of Porto striker Hulk having been locked in negotiations with the Brazilian international for around a month and a half.

However the inability to agree upon a fee could see the deal collapse with Portista’s rebuffing Chelsea’s offer of £30m up front with performance related bonuses taking the final figure to £40m.
