Chelsea FC are to give up their chase for Luka Modric and will instead now focus their full attention on Porto’s João Moutinho for whom the club have already made enquiries and are preparing a bid worth £25m.
The amount that could be paid to Porto for the 24 year old is £10m less than what Tottenham Hotspur would be looking for and there is still no guarantee the White Hart Lane side would accept cash on its own and may ask for a player to be involved in the transaction.
Chelsea’s past shows they are not the keenest on swap deals, preferring to do their business on a cash only basis. Although Moutinho is perhaps not Chelsea’s first choice playmaker to bring into the side, the fact that he has already played under Villa Boas will benefit both player and the side and a move is expected by the end of the week by the Stamford Bridge club should Tottenham Hotspur chairman stick to his word by not allowing Modric to depart.
