Chelsea to lose out on right-back this summer
Chelsea are prepared to miss out on defensive target Gregory van der Wiel this summer and will look to move again next June.
The West London side are however closing in on a deal for wing-back Alvaro Pereira with the Uruguayan international expected in London on Wednesday to complete a medical and finalise personal terms before the window shuts at midnight.
Van der Wiel, whilst an admirer of Chelsea, is not keen to leave the Netherland’s just yet and is happy to remain at Ajax for at least one more season. With current right-back Jose Bosingwa doing well, the Chelsea management team also believe there is no need for urgency in bringing in another right back at this stage and shall re-assess the situation in January.
