Reports from Bavaria are claiming that Chelsea are prepared to test Bayern Munich’s resolve with a thunderous £45m bid for French winger Franck Ribéry.
Bayern are currently involved in their poorest season for some years and it is believed that there will be a host of changes at the club in the summer starting with a new manager when Luis van Gaal departs. Whilst the Bundesliga giants have made it clear that players such as Schwiensteiger and Lahm will not be leaving, having just signed big contract extensions with the German internationals, it is believed a bid of over £40m for the French trickster could possibly be entertained.
Since 2007 Ribéry has made almost 100 appearances for the club netting 28 goals in the process and it is understood that Chelsea wish to purchase as much talent before the UEFA Financial Fairplay rules begin to apply in 2012.
With Chelsea having just acquired the services of Torres and Luiz, there looks to be no stopping as the Stamford Bridge club look to plan ahead for the next five years. At 27 years old Ribery does have plenty of good years ahead of him and although injuries have affected him over the last 18 months he will certainly be a huge addition to the Chelsea squad.
There were suggestions that the winger would move last year but Bayern’s asking price was claimed to be that of around £60m.
