Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is adamant that he has no plans to sell Chelsea forwards Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba and Saloman Kolou even if new contracts are not agreed with the trio.
Ivory Coast internationals Drogba and Kalou are in talks with the Blues, meanwhile it is unsure whether French forward Anelka will be offered a new contract.
Reports had linked both Drogba and Anelka with moves away from Stamford Bridge, however Anelka’s move currently looks more imminent
Despite this, Villas-Boas is comfortable to run the risk of losing the players on a free rather than selling them for a transfer fee when the January transfer window opens.
“I don’t think so, it happens all the time. We won’t need to sell these players,” said the Blues boss, pointing out he encountered a similar scenario at Porto last season.
“The most important thing is for the club to try to defend its interests. We know these players are of higher importance.” Villas-Boas continued.
“That’s why the offers are on the table, apart from with Anelka, end of story.
“We will try to get them to reach an agreement.”
Should all three move on, Chelsea would go from having an embarrassment of riches up front to arguably lacking numbers.
“That’s why the talks are ongoing,” Villas-Boas added. “We still have plenty of time.”
