While they battle it out for pricey Tottenham midfielder, Luka Modric, Chelsea are understood to be after Liverpool playmaker, Raul Meireles.
The Portuguese international worked under Chelsea manager, Andre Villas-Boas, while he was part of the staff at Porto and the Blues’ boss is ready to reignite their partnership.
Meireles was voted PFA Fans’ Player of the Year last season, and after the Reds saw a draught of midfield talent come in this summer, the 28 year-old was thought to be on his way out of Anfield.
Villas-Boas is still keen to bring in Modric regardless of whether Meireles moves to Stamford Bridge, and is supposedly keen on Liverpool’s £12m valuation of the Portuguese maestro.
