City boss refuses to get drawn into title talk

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has ignored suggestions that his side are now serious contenders for the Premier League title despite thrashing rivals United at Old Trafford.

City claimed a remarkable 6-1 victory on Sunday going five points clear at the top flight summit but Mancini is refusing to carried away in by all title talk with the season still in it’s early stages.

The Italian was coy on his sides chances of finishing the campaign in top spot preferring to keep his feet on the ground claiming there are clutch of teams capable of usurping Sir Alex Ferguson’s reigning champions.

He said: “I think there are four or five teams that can win the title in the end. The season is too long, it is very difficult every game, every three days we play.

“I think against Tottenham we played very well, and against Bolton, but this is different – we played against a strong team like United.

“But in the end there are three points – finished. We don’t take six points for this game.”

Mancini’s side oozed quality on Sunday but the 46-year-old former Inter Milan boss still considers United to be the far superior team.

“This is only one game. I still think United are one yard above us, still.” The Italian said.

“I think we can only change this after we win the title in the end.

“After, maybe it will be different, but now United are better than us.”
