Dalglish chasing Bilbao striker

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is reportedly mulling over whether to bid for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernado Llorente as he attempts to bolster his attacking options.

The Anfield chief is desperate to add some extra firepower to his squad with Luis Suarez’s suspended until the end of February and £35 million record signing Andy Carroll struggling in front of goal. Dirk Kuyt has also misfired for much of the season heightening Dalglish’s fear that a lack of goals will harm the clubs chances of making it into the top four.

Rumours that Llorente has been targeted by the Scot have gathered pace and it now looks as if a move for the Spanish international is on the cards. The 26-year-old has found the net eight times in all competitions this term for Athletic as they continue to challenge fora European place at the top of La Liga.

The 6’4 striker would certainly add some much needed aerial aggression that Carroll has failed to provide since his record breaking move from Newcastle a year ago. His prophesied partnership with Suarez has never fully kicked off and Dalglish will be hoping Llorente can spark up a devastating connection with the Uruguayan.

Prising him away from the San Mames Stadium won’t be easy though as Tottenham found out in the summer when Athletic quoted them £30 million for the striker. However the prospect of moving to Merseyside and following in the footsteps of  Fernando Torres is likely to appeal to Llorente as he chases a place in Spain’s squad for Euro 2012.
