Brendan Rodgers’ flailing hopes for a top four finish have been handed a massive boost with the Liverpool medical staff informing the under-fire manager that star striker, Daniel Sturridge is set to return from a long term thigh injury in early January.
The former Chelsea man has managed just three appearances for the Reds so far this season after picking up a thigh injury while on international duty back in September.
In his absence, Liverpool have crashed out of the Champions League in group stages while league outings haven’t been easy either.
The England international, along with Luis Suarez was a key figure for his team’s second place finish in the league last season and his absence has literally hurt the club.
However, the former Chelsea player is set to return this January and Rodgers informed that the player is going to be ready just after the Christmas period.
Rodgers explained: “That will probably be just after the Christmas period.
“The first phase of his rehab was out in LA where we did some specific work with him there.”
And Rodgers is looking forward to welcoming back the former Manchester City man as the Reds seek to turn things around in the league.
