Newcastle United defender, Danny Simpson, says that his side should be aiming to win the League Cup as the larger teams in the competition concentrate on their other priorities.
The former Manchester United full-back fired home a 40-yard goal in Wednesday’s third round win over Nottingham Forest, prevailing 4-3 after extra time.
The Magpies are now enjoying a seven-game unbeaten streak this season, and Simpson is delighted with the early season performances.
The 24 year-old noted: “The squad is better than it was last year, and I think we’ve got more belief. We have more attacking options and when we concede goals we are capable of hitting back.”
He added: “The boss told us he wants to do well in this competition and we’d love to play at Wembley.”
