Demba Ba set to leave Newcastle as Pardew eyes Tottenham hitman

Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in signing Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, which could pave the way for Demba Ba to depart in the opposite direction.

Defoe, 29, has been out of favour with Tottenham this season and is believed to be keen on leaving White Hart Lane this summer. The striker is in Roy Hodgson’s England squad but is rumoured to after a fresh challenge revitalise his international and club fortunes.

Sources claim that Redknapp would not be opposed to the idea of Jermain Defoe leaving the club this season, as he is believed to be interested in two alternative striking options, which could lead to a shock trade with Newcastle.

To finance a move for Defoe it is expected that a striker will leave Newcastle, and Spurs are rumoured to have made their interest in Demba Ba known in the last few days.

The Senegalese striker has failed to recapture the impressive form he showed before the African Cup of Nations, and has seemed increasingly disgruntled on the pitch for Newcastle as Papiss Cissé continues to flourish. Many clubs, including Liverpool, have been linked to the striker who could be open to a fresh start away from Tyneside.

Yet Tottenham are believed to be in pole position for the striker’s signature, especially if the two clubs can negotiate a deal for Defoe. The club have already lost Roman Pavlyuchenko and are uncertain they will be able to extend Emmanuel Adebayor’s loan from Manchester City for another season.

Harry Redknapp is also rumoured to be eager to complete the signature of Marseille’s promising French forward, Loic Remy. Tottenham have been extensively linked with the youngster and a deal is believed to be close between the two clubs.
