at Derby to begin with, the finished in tenth position last time out and Nigel Clough will be looking for his men to build on that this term. They showed that when at their best, they can compete with anyone in this division but they just need to show a bit more consistency.
The Rams have been in good form during pre-season and have scored plenty of goals, so Clough will be looking for something similar here.
They haven’t spent a huge amount of money during the transfer window, but the signings of strikers Johnny Russell and Chris Martin are sure to excite fans as the former scored 13 goals in the SPL last season and the latter has experience at this level after his promotion with Norwich City back in 2011.
Derby fans can be optimistic about the new campaign and at 21/20, they might prove to be good value on your bets for this match.
Pride Park is sure to be rocking and even though results aren’t vital just yet, the home supports will be coming to the stadium to see their side pick up all three points.
The manager also knows that this is the season where his side need to make a play-off push as they have been a mid-table team for too long now.
As for Blackburn, they had an awful season both on and off the pitch as they finished in 17th position in the league and went through several managers.
Gary Bowyer was in charge for the final few matches of the last campaign and he is the manager right now, so will be looking to make a promotion push, as well as adding some much-needed stability to the club.
When looking at the players in the squad, you would have to say that the Lancashire club do have the quality needed to be involved come the closing stages of the season and with Jordan Rhodes still at Ewood Park, they have one of the best finishers around.
Many will be backing Rhodes to find the net in this one and if you think he can grab the first goal of the game, he has odds of 11/2, which might prove to be decent value.
A bet on a Blackburn win can be backed at 16/5 and if they are to challenge for the top six, you feel as though the visitors need to get off to a good start.
All of the action gets underway from 4pm on Sunday and it is going to be interesting to see how these two teams start the season.
