DP World Tour Championship Golf Odds : In Running brings value as Karlsson, Quiroz and Coetzee appeal

The Race to Dubai may have already been settled by the mesmeric Rory McIlroy last month, but that’s not to say the DP World Tour Championship won’t be a pulsating betting event this week as the latest betting odds from Paddy Power suggest.

An all-star cast lines up at the Jumeirah Estate’s Earth Course for the European Tour finale, with a winner’s prize fund of $1.6 million guaranteed to the winner. McIlroy, who landed an extra $7.5 million, for winning the Race to Dubai last month, has ended the season as the biggest money winner whatever happens this week, but his inclusion adds spice to an already tantalising betting heat.

From a betting point of view this tournament is a real hit with hard hitting golfers as the standard is very high and due to the big purse players will be motivated fully to play well.

McIlroy heads the betting for this week’s event, but has questions to answer after missing the cut in Hong Kong last week. This is also a tournament the boy wonder from Holywood is yet to win.

There has been plenty of opposition to his pre-tournament price of 6/1 with Ladbrokes, with the fact that he may be winding down his season ahead of Christmas. At the current win prices, which would be his fifth of the season, he certainly can be taken on.

Louie Oosthuizen is the next selection of the punters according to the betting markets, and is being strongly backed to deliver the goods around the 9/1 mark with Paddy Power. The South African finished 10th, 11th and 6th in Dubai in the last three visits, and although he doesn’t pack a powerful punch from the tee, his ability to deal with contours of the tricky greens makes him a huge player this weekend.

However, looking elsewhere rather than the top of the market could prove profitable for this week as longshots Robert Karlsson and Alvaro Quiros have taken the spoils in Dubai over the last two years. The conditions can take its toll on players and can throw some of the big-guns off their game.

Big-hitters also seem to fare well as the density of the air in the conditions mean players can drive the ball further off the tee on a course defiantly favours players with bulky drivers.

Quiroz has triumphed twice in the desert, but unfortunately, he has been unable to find enough form to qualify this season. He may not be here, but, namesake Alexander Noren has similar strengths to the Dubai specialist and should be of interest for punters around the 66/1 mark with Bet365.

Noren won twice last year, and appears to be coming into form just as the season is coming to a close. His record in these types of conditions is hardly sparkling yet a sixth place finish here in 2009 shows he can play the course well when he’s in the right mood.

Another outsider to keep an eye on could be classy South African hitter George Coetzee, who comes into the tournament still a maiden on the Tour but has all the hallmarks of a regular winner once he gets the monkey of his back.

Consistency is the name of the game for Coetzee, his strong play from the tee and the fairway has resulted in him managing 17 top-10 finishes in under three full seasons on the European Tour.

He was sixth in Abu Dhabi and fifth in the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this season, suggesting that he has the game to take to the surroundings in Dubai. At 30/1 with Bet365, he looks superb each-way value.
