Dutchman to Manchester Utd rumours gather pace

Bookmakers have stopped bets that Sneijder will leave Inter MilanSpeculation that Manchester United are set to sign Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has intensified today as bookmakers have suspended betting on the Dutchman leaving Inter Milan.

Sneijder, 27, is also rumoured to have said farewell to his Inter Milan teammates today and some sources claim that the Dutchman conducted a lap of honour after his side’s pre-season fixture earlier today.

The deal had seemed to be dead after Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Manchester United had ‘no real interest’ in Inter’s playmaker. However, rumours of Sneijder’s alleged farewell and the suspension of betting has prompted rumours to resurface stronger than before.

It is widely believed that Inter Milan are open to selling their prized asset and that, despite Ferguson’s denials, United are also secretly interested. If rumours are to be believed, United Chief Executive David Gill was in Milan to meet officials from Sneijder’s camp and also Inter Milan.

Inter Milan have already bought a midfielder this summer as a possible replacement for their Dutch star. Ricardo Álvarez, also a target of Arsenal, was signed by the Italian club for 11,75million Euros. And rumours that Inter are keen on Brazilian midfielder Casemiro plus Valencia’s Ever Banega refuse to go away. Moves for Carlos Tevez and Javier Pastore have also been touted by some sources.

New Inter Milan manager Gasperini has also fuelled speculation Sneijder is outbound as he favours a 3-4-1-2 formation which would struggle to accommodate Sneijder’s attacking tendencies.
