England Holland Odds : Betting suggests win for Netherlands at Wembley

Stuart Pearce takes charge of his first game since assuming the role of England caretaker manager, and could hardly face a tougher assignment when Holland arrive at Wembley on Wednesday night.

His predecessor Fabio Capello resigned as manager earlier in the month following a decision by the FA to suspend captain John Terry without his consultation.

Having already qualified for Euro 2012, the purpose of this friendly is to get the first look at how the squad are shaping up ahead of the tournament this summer.

Pearce has named a young squad, and will be taking note of who he feels is most worthy of a place on the plane to Poland and Ukraine.

But he will have to make do with a depleted squad after injury and illness has left him with fewer options than he would have liked.

Manchester United duo of Wayne Rooney (throat infection) and Tom Cleverley (foot) have now been joined on the sidelines by Tottenham’s Kyle Walker.

The defender, who Pearce knows well from his time in charge of the under-21s, has been forced to withdraw with an ankle problem.

One player to have been included in Stuart Pearce’s squad is West Ham goalkeeper, Robert Green. He could be in line to make his first start for England since being dropped by Capello following his mistake against the USA at the World Cup.

There is a long history of games between England and Holland in international football. Indeed, the last four games (all friendlies) have ended as draws.

This will be Holland’s first trip to Wembley since their 4-1 defeat back in 1996, a game that Stuart Pearce was named in the England starting line-up for.

That win was the last time England defeated Holland, with their record currently standing at one win in 11 meetings.

With Holland ranked third in the world by FIFA, and England fifth, this game is sure to be a high quality, exciting encounter.
