The match will be the 22nd meeting between the two teams, and in the previous encounters the record is all-square with six victories each and nine draws. There have been some classic encounters over the years with some great goals, here are three of England’s finest and hopefully we can see some as good as these on the day. 3. David Platt (1992):
This game took place at England’s largely forgettable Euro 92 campaign. After successive 0-0 draws against Denmark and France respectively, England faced the hosts in a must-win final game. England got off to the perfect start after only three minutes with a cracking volley by David Platt but Sweden eventually won 2-1 thanks to one of the goals of the tournament from Tomas Brolin. Check them both out below in this top ten goals of Euro 92 compilation. Platt’s is number five and Brolin’s is number one.

2. Darren Anderton (1995):
This game from 1995 took place at Elland Road, Leeds as part of a short lived tournament called the Umbro International Trophy that also included Brazil and Japan. The match ended in a 3-3 draw and is probably best remembered for three things. The first is an awful display of goalkeeping by Tim Flowers that features not one but two howlers. The second is a stunning comeback as England were 3-1 down with only three minutes to play. The third is a memorable last minute goal from Darren Anderton. An Alan Shearer cushioned header falls right into his path and he unleashes an unstoppable first time strike that goes in off of both posts. Relive the whole match below, Anderton’s goal is four minutes in.

1. Joe Cole (2006):
The best goal has to be Joe Cole’s amazing long range volley from this 2006 World Cup group game. The Swedish defender probably thought he’d done a good job clearing the danger from an England attack by heading out of his box but Cole controls the ball on his chest and sends a high-arcing, spinner to the top-corner giving the keeper no chance.
