The pick of the ties not only involving an English outfit, but of all the matches in the last sixteen sees Tottenham Hotspur host Inter Milan in what should be a cracking 90 minutes between two teams looking to go all the way and win this compeition.
Spurs know just how important the first leg is as they are on home soil and with the way Andre Villas-Boas’ men are playing right now, they are sure to be full of confidence.
The North Londoners come into this one on the back on a 2-1 win over rivals Arsenal in the Premier League and they have one of the in-form players in Europe – Gareth Bale – at their disposal. Bale is the 4/1 favourite to score first and a home win is being offered at 4/5.
Villas-Boas knows just how tough this game is going to be though as his team take on a very good Inter side that have been one of the most impressive in the Europa League so far.
Inter will make themselves tough to break down on Thursday night and try to pinch an away goal on the counter-attack, so Spurs have to be wary of going too gung-ho here.
Chelsea are also in action as they make the journey to Steaua Bucharest in what is far from an easy tie.
Bucharest beat Ajax over two legs in the previous round and played some fantastic football against the Dutch side – eventually winning on penalties – so the Blues have to be at their best on Thursday evening.
Chelsea managed to beat Sparta Prague, but they made it tough for themselves as Eden Hazard scored a last-minute goal in the second leg to send them through 2-1 on aggregate.
If Rafael Benitez’s men are able to put in strong performance here though, they could all but seal their place in the quarter-finals and they are available at evens to win on the night.
Newcastle United are the final English team to look at here and they face an extremely tough trip to the big-spending Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Magpies have surprised a few in getting this far in the tournament, but Alan Pardew knows this is going to be the toughest test his men have had so far as Anzhi have players such as Samuel Eto’o at their disposal – a man who has bags of experience in European football.
An away win is available at 9/2 and it is going to take a big performance from Newcastle to win on the night. In truth, they would take a draw right now, especially if they can grab a goal.
Anzhi are one of the front-runners for the entire tournament though and they will look to attack their opponent right from the off.
All three of these games look to be cracking encounters and after the action on Thursday evening, we will see which British team look to be the strongest in this compeition.
