Everton boss hoping playmaker transfer doesn’t prompt Winter firesale

David Moves is aiming to keep a hold of his key players in the January transfer window following the summer sale of Mikel Arteta.

Arteta completed a deadline day transfer to Arsenal as the Toffees cashed in on their star amidst a financial crisis at Goodison Park.

The Merseysiders were limited to making just three loan signings due to a lack of available funds, but Moyes hopes that no one else chooses to leave the club in the New Year.

The Scot said: “Yes, there is a danger that selling Mikel could set a precedent, but I hope not.”

He added: “There is always a danger when someone goes after saying they want to leave that it could set a precedent, and we will have to be careful of that.”
