Everton centre-back is top Arsenal target
Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka is Arsenal’s top defensive target this summer and will try and offer striker Nicklas Bendtner as part exchange for the defender.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was initially keen on Bolton Wanderers central defender Gary Cahill however the club are willing to wait until January to see if he becomes available less expensively than the £17m Owen Coyle side are currently requesting or even on a free next summer should Liverpool, who are also monitoring his sitaution, not make a move.
The defensive situation at Arsenal has been drawn out with many names mentioned however once the North London side can agree a fee with Everton, Jagielka will be the last central defender until at least next January with possibly just a left back to come in, despite Wenger insisting that Kieran Gibbs is ready for the role at Arsenal.
