Everton are to join the race to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young according to reports on Merseyside, joining Liverpool, Manchester United and possibly North London side Arsenal.
The 25 year old who is primarily right footed, can also play on the left side and is an area that David Moyes wishes to re-build after selling to Steven Pienaar to Tottenham in January this year.
With Baines and Pienaar on the left hand side, it was a particularly strong area of Everton’s game however with the South African not extending his contract and departing for White Hart Lane, Everton now wish to add Young to that area.
He will of course not come cheap, especially if the other three Premiership clubs are bid in the summer transfer window and Everton has not been a club well known for spending big every time a window opens. There is also the lure of European Football for Young, something he will be guaranteed at Manchester United and Arsenal in the Champions League and highly likely at Liverpool who should make the Europa League next season.
Should Everton want the winger who has already been capped 14 times by England then Bill Kenwright will need to make a lot of cash available. Moyes on the other hand will want to add to his squad and not sell his current stars to make signing the Aston Villa flyer a reality.
