Shannon Stone, a 39 year old firefighter from Brownwood, Texas, died Thursday night after falling 20 feet from the outfield stands at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
Stone was attempting to catch a ball thrown to him by Rangers OF Josh Hamilton, when he lost his balance and fell over the railing. He fell head-first, landing in an area between the railing and the left field wall. He was conscious as medical staff attended to him and asked park personnel to watch over his six year old son, who had witnessed the fall.
Arlington Fire Department officials reported that Stone went “into full arrest” in the ambulance as he was being taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was pronounced dead.
Hamilton was unavailable for comment after the game, as the Rangers chose to close their clubhouse to the media after the game between the Rangers and the Oakland Athletics.
Stone is survived by his wife, Jenny, and his son, Cooper.
