Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Luka Modric wants to join the club and is confident of tying up a deal before the Guardian reports.
Modric is determined to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and is reportedly keen on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu despite interest from elsewhere in Europe.
Mega rich French side Paris Saint Germain have been in contact with the 26-year-old’s representatives whilst Chelsea and Manchester United are long-term admirers.
The Blues failed on three occasions to sign the Croatian midfielder last year as Spurs chairman rebuffed the advances of then boss Andre Villas-Boas who, in a bizarre turn of events, is now manager at White Hart Lane.
Selling to a Premier League rival is off the table for Levy whilst PSG, despite their riches, appear to be outsiders in the race for his signature with Modric’s heart set on a move to Madrid.
The former Dinamo Zagreb man has a £40m price tag on his idea and it’s now up to Perez to agree a fee structure, that is expected to include numerous performance-related add-ons, with the North London club.
However Levy will only sell on his terms and should the Spanish champions’ offer come in under his valuation the probability of him accepting are slim which could lead to another long-running transfer saga.
Argentina striker Gozalo Higuain has spoken of his desire to see Modric in a Madrid shirt next season after his impressive performances at Euro 2012 and hopes a deal can be concluded quickly before the new campaign kicks off next month.
“I saw at Modric at Euro 2012 and also at Tottenham,” Higuain told as.com.
“He is a player who loves the club and us. I wish to close the deal as quickly as possible if it is for the good of the team.”
