Chelsea stalwart, Frank Lampard, has said that he understands how Carlos Tevez can be frustrated with his current predicament, but is quick to add that he would never ignore an instruction from his manager.
The news comes after a controversial seven days for English football, where Carlos Tevez refused to come on as a substitute in Tuesday’s Champions League loss against Bayern Munich, after Lampard had apparently stormed down the tunnel in Chelsea’s game against Swansea.
The England international has been seeing himself sitting on the bench more regularly in recent weeks, but starred in the 1-1 draw against Valencia in Wednesday’s Champions League match, with Andre Villas Boas reluctant to rule the veteran out of his starting XI plans.
Speaking about Tuesday’s Tevez ordeal, the Chelsea midfielder said: “Some people might make the wrong decision at the wrong time and regret it afterwards, so I’m not going to dig anybody out.”
He added: “I wouldn’t turn down coming on and all that sort of stuff. I don’t imagine myself doing that but I understand people’s frustration and we deal with it in different ways. That doesn’t mean I’m happy on the day but I don’t think the manager or any person would expect you to be happy or otherwise you’re picking up your money to be content to stick your bum on the bench.”
