Fulham are reportedly pursuing Swansea City winger Scott Sinclair after talks over a new contract stalled a Footy Bunker source tells us.
After opting not to sign loan star Pavel Pogrebnyak on a permanent deal Cottagers boss Martin Jol is keen to boost his attack ahead of the new Premier League season.
Reports suggest Hamburg’s Croatian striker Mladen Petric is the forward Jol is trailing but Footy Bunker been reliably informed that Sinclair is his top target.
The 23-year-old is rated at £6-million by the south Wales club and was expected to sign a new deal to stay at the Liberty Stadium despite having 14-months to run on his current contract.
However talks have stalled in the last few weeks following Brendan Rodgers’ switch to Liverpool and Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed Sinclair could be sold to avoid losing him for nothing.
“At this level of football and with the transfer money which could come in with players leaving in the final year of their contract, we wouldn’t want to go down that route again of allowing a player to let his contract run out again,” Jenkins said.
“The times have gone where we can leave a player go into the last year of his contract because the values of (transfer) fees are far greater than they were when we made those decisions years ago.
“Perhaps we did make those decisions on players who weren’t first-team regulars at the time.
“But with Scott being a first-team regular we need a decision one way or the other as soon as possible so the manager can be clear in his mind on where the team goes and make sure the squad is right for August.”
Jol now hopes to take advantage of the situation by tabling a bid for Sinclair having failed to signing him in the January transfer window.
