Martin Jol has revealed his disappointment after his side failed to beat a 10-man Chelsea side in Wednesday’s Carling Cup clash.
The Cottagers fell at the last hurdle after lasting 120 minutes against their London rivals, eventually losing 4-3 on penalties.
The Dutch boss noted: “I had the feeling in the back of my mind that we could beat them here for the first time in 32 years.”
Among the missed penalties was £10.6m summer signing, Bryan Ruiz, whom Jol has defended, stating: “He’s a confident player. The only thing he needs is rhythm, coping with the English style.”
