Fulham stepping up interest in Tottenham forward

Sources suggest that Fulham are ready to make an offer for Tottenham forward, Jermain Defoe, in an effort to bolster their attacking line.
The Cottagers have failed to hit the mark offensively this campaign and are currently one of the Premier League’s lowest-scoring sides with strikers Bobby Zamora, Orlando Sa and Andy Johnson only netting eight times between them.
Defoe is in slightly more prolific form with six goals to his tally this season, but still finds himself limited to substitute appearances while Emmanuel Adebayor takes up the starting berth.
Reports tell us that Tottenham are looking to offload some of their deadwood over the course of the January transfer window as they seek to free up funds for what Harry Redknapp predicts will be a ‘major signing’.
The club have surprised everybody with their form this season and find themselves in a genuine challenge for the Premier League title, sitting third in the table behind Manchester United and leaders Manchester City.
QPR are another team to be linked with a move for Defoe, however the 29 year-old may opt for a move to Craven Cottage after a rocky festive period at Loftus Road that has seen the Hoops drop down to just above the relegation spots.
Although there’s no argument against the fact that Defoe’s prime years are behind him, the England international would still provide Fulham with something they desperately need; goals.
Martin Jol will be familiar with the speedster from his time at the helm of the North Londoners and may be keen to link back up with his old charge.
Defoe will be keen to return to a starting line-up ahead of Euro 2012, and would be expected to cost around £10m.
