Doubts regarding the future of Tottenham’s top players have been voiced after Gareth Bale hinted he might leave White Hart Lane if Spurs do not secure Champions League football at the end of the season.
The Welshman has been the center of attention upfront for Spurs in recent seasons, Bale shocked audiences with a hat-trick at Inter Milan in the Champions League last season and a number of crucial goals in this season’s Premier League.
Spurs were looking certain to clinch a Champions League spot a number of weeks ago, but since going on a poor run of form as of late, Harry Redknapp’s men have slipped behind Newcastle United in fourth place.
Gareth Bale told BBC’s Football Focus yesterday that he could very well leave White Hart Lane in the summer if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League. “If we don’t [qualify], we have to sit down and discuss what’s best for myself.” he added.
“We’re playing some good stuff at the moment, we just can’t seem to get the ball in the back of the net,
“I think it’s just one of those things you go through during the season – I think Arsenal went through it and came out stronger so hopefully our luck will change. We’re not getting too much luck at the moment.”
“Things can change dramatically in football, and we’re hoping it changes for us over the last four games.”
Tottenham welcomed Blackburn Rovers to White Hart Lane Sunday afternoon afternoon, the home side needed a win to keep any hope of clinching fourth spot and that ever-crucial spot in next season’s Champions League.
Spurs eventually cruised to a comfortable 2-0, and currently sit in 4th place, one point above both Newcastle United in 5th and Chelsea in 6th.
Bolton welcome Spurs to the Reebok on Wednesday night, in a game that Harry Redknapp’s men must win to retain their Champions League spot.
