German giant admits interest in Arsenal switch

Arsenal target, Per Mertesacker, has admitted that he might favour a move to the Premier League and that the Gunners could be the right destination.

The Germany international thinks the move could help his international career, commenting: “For a national player it is a good thing to get experience of playing abroad.”

Arsenal have been on the lookout for a centre-back all summer, and are in even more desperate need of one after this weekend’s injury to Thomas Vermaelen.

The Werder Bremen defender is a regular in the Germany international setup and Bremen sporting director, Klaus Allofs, said: “Should Per say that he wants to try something different and it is interesting for us, then we will sit down together. We have enough defenders.”

Mertesacker’s contract runs out next year and the German will be keen to cash in should he be looking to leave.
