Getafe will be hoping to pull further away from the relegation zone this weekend when they host Champions League chasing Espanyol on Saturday evening.
As things stand Luis García Plaza’s men sit 12th in La Liga, which seems relatively comfortable on the surface of it, but they are only four points clear of the relegation zone. They will be aware that a run of negative results could see them dragged into some trouble.
With this in mind, they will consider their remaining home games particularly crucial this season, starting with the visit of Espanyol this weekend.
Looking at their form going into Saturday’s match, they have actually lost their last two La Liga games. Prior to this though, they had an unbeaten run of six games, so they are capable of a string of positive results.

As for Espanyol, well if they are to be positive with regards to their ambitions for the rest of the season, they will target 3rd place in La Liga.
It may seem like a way off at the moment – they are eight points behind Valencia – but a good run in the next few weeks and they may have a fighting chance.
They need to win these types of games though if this is to be realistic and this means getting their first win of February on Saturday evening. They could also do with bouncing back from the disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Real Zaragoza last time out.
Overall, this should be a very tight contest on Saturday. It has been a pattern of Getafe’s home games this year that there hasn’t been many goals – there have only been 16 in 10 games this season – and perhaps a single goal could be the deciding factor.
When these two teams met earlier this season this was the case with a 1-0 win to Espanyol, so it really does look set to be a tense and closely fought match.
