WCQ Group G: Bosnia aim to reach their first World Cup despite pressure from Greece

Bosnia are 1/3 favourites to pick up a win away to Lithuania and secure their first ever World Cup appearance as Greece aim to spoil party with a win against Liechtenstein.

All eyes fall on Group G as Bosnia and Greece know that a win could potentially put either one of them in next year’s World Cup finals.

Bosnia will be aiming to reach the pinnacle of football for the first time and a win in Kaunas against Lithuania will do just that.

The Balkans side will have an unchanged side as to the one that beat Liechtenstein 4-1 on Friday and means that many of their key figures such as Asmir Begovic and Emir Spahic will once against featue at the star of the match.

One thing that has given Bosnia pole position in the race to qualify automatically has been their significant goal scoring ability with the combination of Edin Dzeko, Vedad Ibisevic and Zjvezdan Muslimovic all scoring more than once and helping score over 29 goals in 8 games.

Lithuania have not been anywhere near as spectacular form in their qualifying run as they currently sit 4th in the group on 11 points after 9 games.

Although the Lithuanians will be without Emilijus Zubas for the clash, they will still have Davydas Sernas who will provide the main attacking threat for the host team.

Meanwhile, Greece know that they need Bosnia to slip up in order for them to have a realistic chance of winning the group as their overall goal difference is much lower than the current group leaders.

Greece will have a fresh squad for their clash against Liechtenstein and it will likely see the more experienced members of the squad such as Giorgios Karagounis and Vasilis Torisidis likely to lead the way.

Not only that but younger members of the squad such as Giannis Fetfatzdis and Sotiris Ninis will be eager to push forward and help Greece qualify so they can have a chance of experiencing the World Cup for the first time.

Although Greece have the easier of the two fixtures, Bosnia still have the advantage going into the game as their superior goal difference could be the factor that sends them to the World Cup rather than to the playoffs.
