Hearts have announced that Craig Thomson has been suspended indefinitely after being convicted last week of indecent behaviour over the internet to two girls, aged 12 and 14.
The club said in a statement on Friday that: “The club views this matter very seriously and does not condone the behaviour of the player. Appropriate action to prevent any further development of unlawful activities has been taken.”
However, the charity Children 1st are urging for the case to be reviewed, and a more severe punishment given. They believe that the current suspension – which also comes with a £4,000 fine – is not enough, and that “not taking action to protect children from the risk of sexual harm is unacceptable.”
A statement on the clubs official website read:
“Hearts today announce that Craig Thomson is suspended with immediate effect. No further comment will be made by the club.”
