Its another big Saturday in the National Hunt season, with the Hennessy Gold Cup from Haydock as Ladbrokes announce the latest odds and a live stream of the race online and available to horse racing fans.

The Hennessy Gold Cup takes centre stage at Newbury this weekend as 19 entries go for victory in this Grade 3 National Hunt Chase. An intense race, it covers over three miles and has 21 fences to be negotiated.

It definitely tests the stamina of those involved and trainers across horse racing have been specific in their preparation for this famous race that dates back to 1957.

A competitive field is led by pre-race favourite Bobs Worth, available at 4/1 for the win. A horse that is ideal for this race, Nicky Henderson’s entry oozes class. Seven wins from ten races is a decent return and a performance close to full potential could take some stopping.

The Hennessy Gold Cup is typically wide open though and the 2012 version of the race is no different. Coming in behind Bobs Worth is 7/1 shot Hold on Julio. Trained by Alan King, this horse has the perfect weight to suit the heavy going and it could all come down to his jumping.

You then have Tidal Bay at 8/1, an unpredictable but potentially fantastic entry from Paul Nicholls. The Champion trainer has got the best out of this horse and it is being heavily backed to be well in contention come Saturday afternoon.

Nicholls has won the Hennessy three times before with Strong Flow and of course the mighty Denman, and his supporters have been steadily backing the eleven year old down from 14/1 in to its current price of 8/1. Of course, the enigmatic Ruby Walsh will be on board for the Champion trainer.

There are then several contenders, including The Package and Saint Are, available between 10/1 and 20/1. Then, highlighting the strength of this field, you have two previous winners in Diamond Harry (25/1) and Carruthers (33/1) looking to prove they still have what it takes.

After victories in 2010 and 2011 respectively, these two horses and the team behind them have tasted Hennessy victory before and they will want it again.

To begin with though, all eyes are on Bobs Worth and the two main rivals to the favourite – Hold on Julio and Tidal Bay.

There is plenty that could happen from further back in the field though and this should be a fantastic race for the Newbury crowd to enjoy.
