Injury blow for Newcastle striker

Newcastle have suffered a major blow in the striking department after it was revealed that Shola Ameobi could be out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Toon frontman felt a twinge just a few minutes after coming off the bench against Wigan at St James’ Park on Saturday but played through the pain barrier to help his side snatch a 1-0 win.

However it came at a cost for the 30-year-old with scans revealing the severity of the injury that will now sideline him for the next four to six weeks.

Speaking to the clubs official website boss Alan Pardew admits it is a bitter blow to lose the experienced hit man after his cameo’s in recent weeks aided the Magpies in their quest to hang onto fourth spot in the Premier League.

He said: “Unfortunately we lost Shola on Saturday so he’s going to be out now for, we think, four to six weeks,”

“That’s a blow to us. He pulled a hamstring after about three minutes of coming on, and still played on which just goes to show you what sort of a character he is.

“He’s going be a loss to us and I think our fans will see that now, how important he is when he’s not there.”

The loss of Ameobi is a massive blow for the Geordies as they look to get as many points on the board with games against both Manchester clubs and Chelsea on the horizon.
