Reports are suggesting that summer target Simon Poulsen may be open to a move to the Premier League with Aston Villa known to be showing interest.
The full-back is currently plying his trade at AZ Alkmaar and was converted from the wing position into a defender upon his arrival. The change meant that the Danish international since has less of a responsibility in attack but by no means does that make the left-sided player useless when going forward.
Poulsen was a component in the Alkmaar side that won the 2008-09 Eredivisie title, but is believed to be likely to move on soon.
Villa were reported as showing interest in the 27 year-old over the summer, however despite the fact that a move never materialised, the Villans will be expected to return for their man in January.
When moving from Sweden to Holland in 2008, Poulsen moved for a fee of £3m. Now almost four years older, the defender presents little sell-on value and may go for around the same sum.
Villa have a number of players who are able to play in the left-back position, but only Neil Warnock is a natural in the role providing more than enough reason for them to go for the Dane.
