Sir Alex Ferguson may have been warned to back off from pursuing the player over the summer, but the Manchester United manager appears to have done no such thing and will once again make an approach for Atalanta forward, Manolo Gabbiadini.
The Scot is known to have been keeping tabs on the youth over the summer and has reportedly sent several scouts to watch him over the first half of the Serie A season before making a January bid for his services.
Juventus and AC Milan lie amongst other suitors said to be tracking the starlet, and will pose considerable opposition in the race for his signature should the Red Devils decide to make an offer.
With Federico Macheda spending the rest of the season on loan at QPR, there is currently a vacancy in the Manchester United squad for an aspiring Italian attacker that Ferguson is keen for Gabbiadini to fill.
Another forward soon to be on their way out of the Manchester outfit is Dimitar Berbatov who, despite being offered a one-year contract extension after a series of impressive performances, still looks set to find his first team football elsewhere and would open up space for a replacement goalscorer.
Gabbiadini drew attention after impressing over the course of the 2010-11 campaign, where he spent the term on loan at Serie B side Citadella, scoring 5 goals in 27 appearances.
His powerful play coupled with an equally physical physique led to the 20 year-old being called up to Italy’s Under-21 side where he has gone on to net 10 goals in 13 games.
The youth may not be as prolific on a club level as he is for club side Atalanta, but this hasn’t affected the amount of interest surrounding the Serie A starlet, and United are reportedly preparing a £8.5m offer to take Manolo Gabbiadini to the new heights of the Premier League.
