Italy meet Uruguay in the vital match of Group D, with the South American’s needing a win to qualify.

Match Facts

Cesare Prandelli’s side need only avoid defeat to qualify along with the groups surprise package Costa Rica.

Both sides were stunned by Costa Rica, although wins over England for each mean they have a chance of reaching the last 16.

Italy lost 1-0 to a Bryan Ruiz header on Friday afternoon, with the result eliminating England with a game still remaining.

The Azzuri were poor for long periods and didn’t threaten a second half leveller, although their superior goal difference means a draw will be enough on Tuesday.

Uruguay themselves had Luis Suarez to thank, after his two goals were enough to beat Roy Hodgson’s men.

Wayne Rooney had equalised with just 15 minutes remaining, yet through the ascendency away and Suarez scored a late winner.

Italy have marginally the better of the head to head record, winning three to Uruguay’s three.

The most recent of fixtures, was a year ago in the Confederations Cup, which Italy won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Team news

Prandelli may make changes following their poor performance in the Costa Rica loss.

Marco Veratti was surprisingly dropped for Friday’s match and will return to face Uruguay, with Thiago Motta to miss out.

Christian Abate came in, forcing Matteo Darmain into a left-back role, with his preference on the other flank.

Suarez was only supposed to feature for an hour against England, however stayed on for 85 minutes, going onto score the winner.

The Liverpool striker will continue and Uruguay will hope he is close to full fitness as they will need their main man.

Maxi Pereira will return after his suspension ended, whilst Diego Lugano is again ruled out through injury.
