Footybunker.com have been led to believe that Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp could be about to come out of retirement and sensationally sign a six-month contract with MK Dons.
The deal would see Redknapp take up a player-coach role under manager Karl Robinson and MK assistant John Gorman, who worked with Redknapp in his England days.
Rumours are rife that the former Spurs midfielder is keen to get back into the hustle and bustle of everyday football and is looking to follow in his Dad’s, Harry’s, footsteps and go down the coaching road rather than peruse his current career in the media.
He has spent time coaching the reserves at Chelsea and has also worked alongside Spurs coaches Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood on a part-time basis over the last couple of years.
It’s not too clear how much he will be used in a playing capacity but Robinson is keen to add an experienced head to his ranks, especially someone with the footballing brain of Redknapp’s, who would be perfect at the base of the midfield in MK Dons’ free-flowing passing orientated system.
The 38-year-old had to retire from the game in 2005 after a string of knee injuries had plagued the latter stages of his career. However, he has recently played in charity matches and has allegedly been training with the Tottenham first-team. It is believed that the knees have been holding up well in those sessions, and with him keeping himself in good shape anyway, match-fitness really shouldn’t be an issue.
Redknapp is currently contracted to Sky Sports as their leading pundit, however, the producers are allegedly happy for the former Liverpool player to return to football as long as it doesn’t clash with his work which is mostly in mid-week and on Sundays while most of MK matches will be on a Saturday.
