Jermaine Jenas pledges to bring something new to Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s loan signing Jermaine Jenas, who arrived on transfer deadline day from Tottenham Hotspur, says he aims to bring drive, energy and most importantly goals to his new club.

The England international claims that his move to Villa is one of the biggest of his career and hopes to be at his best for the long season ahead. However, he is under no illusions of walking straight into a strong Villa side.

“First and foremost I’ve got to get in this team who have been doing really well – and bring something new they haven’t got and hopefully hold down a spot.”

Extolling what he sees as his best attributes Jenas said: “I can bring my drive, I can get behind centre-halves, get on the other side of midfield players and score goals.”

The midfielder added:

“This I potentially the biggest move of my career to reignite what I know is already within me as a player.

“This is a fantastic place to come and play football and almost showcase it. If I can get that confidence behind me, put some top performances for Villa, I can help them achieve what they want to.”

Time will only tell if Jenas can regain his best form, but he admitted he had high hopes for his new club this season: “It’s important we push on into that top seven or eight and try and maintain some form, be tough to beat, and maybe push on in a few cup competitions as well and go on a good run.”

Villa are away to Everton at Goodison Park today.
