Juventus lining up shock Suarez swoop

Italian champions Juventus are reportedly set to launch a bid to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in the summer according to a Footy Bunker source.

The Turin club have money to spend after winning the Serie A title are in the market for a big name striker and have been linked with moves for Robin Van Persie, Gonzalo Higuain, Edinson Cavani and Fernando Torres this year.

Arsenal frontman Van Persie was thought to be their top target but it’s now emerged that Suarez is at the top of boss Antonio Conte’s shopping list and are ready to test the waters with a bid.

The Uruguay international suffered a turbulent season at Anfield after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra subsequently serving an eight-match ban and having to pay a £40,000 fine.

Prising the 25-year-old away from the Reds won’t be easy for the Old Lady but they do have the offer of Champions League football and an escape route from Premier League on their side.

Italian daily Tuttosport reported last month that Suarez has asked international teammate Martin Caceres about life in Italy and asked him about Juventus.

“I’ve known Suarez for a lifetime,” Caceres said. “We’ve been roommates in the Uruguay set-up for seven years. “He’s a friend, a nice guy and a great attacker.

“A lot of bad things are said about him, but the problem is that he struggles to explain himself because he doesn’t speak a lot of English.

“Juventus? It’s true, we have talked about Juventus and he’s asked me about the club without going into specifics about the players. I told him that Juventus are an outfit that wants to always win.

“He’s happy in Liverpool, but he liked what I told him about Juve. After all, who wouldn’t want to play for such an ambitious club? Let me put it this way, I would be happy to share a room with him at Juventus too.”

It’s unknown yet whether Liverpool intend to sell Suarez although rumours at the weekend suggested new manager Brendan Rodgers could cash in on him to fund a move for Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar.
