News reports from Turin in Northern Italy have suggested that Juventus are to try and lure Chelsea’s 23 year old defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel to the Juventus Arena with a summer bid rumoured to be around £17m.
The Nigerian has made 28 appearances for Chelsea this season and he is perhaps more famous for his refusal to join Manchester United when an apparent pre-deal had been signed. Juventus want the midfielder though as cover should current tough tackling Marchisio depart for a new challenge.
With most of Chelsea’s central midfielders at the age of or above that of 30, they will surely be reluctant to allow a player of 23 who already has so much experience to leave for the Serie A giants. More importantly is Juventus’ current position in the league where they sit in 7th, a big 14 points off a Champions League spot.
If Mikel would be interested in leaving the Champions League alone for at least one season then it may seem a good idea to join the Italian side. but despite reports a move to Italy has already been labelled “unlikely” at this time.
