Bayern got off to the best possible start against Juve last week as they scored inside the first minute, so immediately put the Italians under pressure. Thomas Muller then found the net just after the hour mark and as they didn’t concede an away goal, the Bundesliga outfit should be in good spirits here.
Also, Jupp Heynckes’ men became the first side to win one of the big European leagues this campaign as they clinched the Bundesliga title with a win over Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend.
Heynckes rested a number of key men in that clash, but there is a feel-good-factor in the squad at the moment and every game they go into, the Germans expect to win. They are at 13/8 here.
One thing Heynckes might be slightly worried about is the performance on home soil to Arsenal in the previous round as they managed a two-goal lead in the first leg of that clash, but lost 2-0 in the second leg at the Allianz.
Bayern didn’t seem to know how to go about their business with a lead and in truth, it might be worth them playing their natural attacking game here. If the service is right for the likes of Mario Gomez and Mario Mandzukic, then the visitors are likely to grab themselves an away goal and make it really tough for the hosts to qualify. Both are at 2/1 to score at anytime on Wednesday.
Juventus are very strong on home soil, but even they know just how tough it is going to be to turn this tie around.
One thing that Antonio Conte can’t allow his men to do is concede, so they have to be clinical in this one as Juve might not see an awful lot of the ball.
The Serie A-leaders have only conceded six goals in their last 16 matches on home soil across all competitions and have been beaten just once in that time, so they have made the Juventus Stadium somewhat of a fortress, but this is their toughest test yet. They are superb value at 2/1 to win on the night.
The Italians have to take full advantage of set-piece situations and as ever, Andrea Pirlo needs to get his delivery spot-on. A 2-0 lead is far from an unassailable one and Juve know that if they can grab themselves a goal in the opening stages, then Bayern are sure to panic.
Conte will call upon the fans to make an electric atmosphere on Wednesday night and make the ground an intimidating place for the away team to come and play their natural passing game.
The first 15 minutes or so are vital in this one as if Bayern score the first goal, they will be pretty much out of sight but if Juventus take the lead, then it is wide open.
All the action gets underway from 7.45pm.
