Kenny Dalglish looking to keep Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard

Dalglish insists that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard can go on for some timeLiverpool FC manager Kenny Dalglish has said that the club will be looking to keep hold of all those he believes are assets to the side and that that will include Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard for years to come.

Although Dalglih cannot give an idea on how much longer Gerrard can play at the highest level he certainly believes he will play over his current contract which is set to expire in 2015.

“I haven’t a crystal ball, I don’t know how long he has left, how long it will be, maybe once he gets back into the swing of things he will have a better idea himself.”

The Liverpool captain could be set to return this weekend against Manchester United after proving his fitness as substitute in numerous matches leading up to the clash at Anfield, but on his future Dalglish claims that whatever the 31 year old wishes to do, and also that of Jamie Carragher, they will receive the full support of the club.

“Whatever he wants to do we will go along with and for me both him and Carra are fantastic examples. Both of them are two people who everybody else can look up to. Carra and Steven have been fantastic for this football club whether they are playing or not playing.”

The Liverpool manager added:

“Anybody who is an asset to the football club I am sure we will look forward to keeping.”

In what could also be deemed a complete turnaround where policy is concerned, Dalglish also claims that age is not a factor when it comes to new deals.

“I got a long contract when I was 33 which I couldn’t believe,” said the Scot. “For me it doesn’t matter about age. I am not rigid. If I was asked how long someone’s contract should be I do not have any hard and fast rules. Everyone is different.”
