QPR to lodge speculative £6m bid for Wolves striker

Reports have suggested that QPR are set to lodge a speculative £6m bid for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle.

The Irish-international is apparently eager for a move away from Molineux sooner rather than later and Everton were being earmarked as the only potential club to show firm interest.

However, sources around Loftus Road are led to believe that the news of Doyle’s availability has pricked the ears of QPR manager Mark Hughes, who is speaking with QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes today to try and generate the funds needed to table an offer their relegation rivals.

The Toffees are also on the hunt for the striker and although no bid for Doyle has been made yet, they could make their move sometime today, especially if their £6m bid for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic is rejected.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has no plans to sell Doyle, especially at this stage of the window as it would give him no time to go and find an adequate replacement. But chief executive Jez Moxey would be keen to cash in on the 28-year-old, who was signed from Reading in 2009 for £6.5m and has gone onto make 79 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals.

Hughes is rumoured to be a key-admirer of the hard-working striker and allegedly had a bid rejected for the striker when he was manager of Fulham.

Time isn’t on Hughes’ side though, as the window is due to shut on Tuesday evening, but if a deal is accepted by Wolves in the next 24 hours there should be time for Doyle to get down to west-London and sign personal terms.
