Lambert on the hunt for Burnley striker

Burnley’s Jay Rodriguez is reportedly a transfer target for Norwich as boss Paul Lambert attempts to strengthen his striking options before the transfer window snaps shut.

The forward has enjoyed a fine season at Turf Moor scoring 14 goals in all competitions to fire the Clarets to within three points of the Championship play-offs. His form has attracted the attention of the Carrow Road management who keen to secure his signature before the end of January.

Norwich have performed above expectations in their first top-flight campaign in six years and currently sit comfortably in ninth well clear of the relegation zone. However Lambert is concerned that he doesn’t have adequate back up for captain Grant Holt and Steve Morison who has shouldered the goalscoring burden since joining from Millwall in the summer.

Whilst Holt and Morison have performed admirably, scoring 17 times between them, the former Colchester manager knows his attack lacks pace and believes Rodriguez’s speed would provide them with an extra dimension up front.

Simeon Jackson has failed to convince the Canaries chief that he is capable of stepping in when his first choice duo are absent and is now plotting a swoop for the 22-year-old. A fee of £4 million has been touted although with Burnley boss Eddie Howe reluctant to sell his prized asset the price could double as the clock ticks down towards the end of the transfer window.
