The Reds are close to landing a £14million deal for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to reports in media.
The Argentine star has been heavily linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes recently, and after not being involved in the club’s winter training squad, it seems almost certain he’ll be leaving the French champions this month.
Lavezzi was only given five minutes in PSG’s latest fixture, and the Express believe Lavezzi is extremely furious over his treatment at the club.
Now this is set to open the door for Liverpool to make a move before next week’s transfer deadline, with the Reds having attempted to sign the former Napoli star last summer.
As the reports are suggesting that the Merseyside club are nearing a £14million deal to bring the attacker to Anfield after scouts were sent to watch PSG’s 1-0 win over Saint-Etienne.
The Reds legend Phil Thompson has also urged the club to sign the 29-year-old, insisting manager Brendan Rodgers needs a player of his calibre to help fill the void left by the departed Luis Suarez and injured Daniel Sturridge.
“Liverpool do need a striker with injuries to Daniel Sturridge and the difficulties that Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli have had,” said Thompson.
“Liverpool need someone who is a bit more established and who has played at a higher level like Gonzalo Higuain or Ezequiel Lavezzi.” he added.
